Hey all!
I've been getting lots of questions lately about commission stuff. Prices, framing, shipping, etc. I've gotten through almost all of my commissions and am always taking more! Christmas is coming up! *hint hint*
First, the important stuff: what do I receive with a commission from you?
-You will get the original feather painting! I will keep a digital copy for my portfolio and online gallery. The painting will also be professionally framed, usually with velvet or colored matting and then shipped to you. A framed feather painting is protected from scratches and dirt, so, although very fragile, will last.
Wow, I get an original! But what does it cost me?
-It really depends upon the size of the feather and how it is framed. I have a system worked out with my parents where I paint the feathers, then my parents get them framed really nice for me. Personally, I am selling my feathers a LOT cheaper than many other feather artists. I've seen some feather artists asking a few hundred dollars for a small feather.
Myself, I ask 65 for the smaller ones (8.5 x 11 Frames) and 85 dollars for the much larger ones. I have just completed a trout painting that measures 16 inches tall and 8 inches wide that took me 3 days straight to paint it. My feather paintings usually only take me a few hours, so I won't take any less than a few hundred for it, especially once it is framed up really really nicely.
When I first started feather painting and hadn't had a lot of experience I was selling my feathers for 30 and 40 dollars, and, trust me, I've gotten a lot better since then and really feel that the price hike was necessary. I'm getting a lot more complicated with my paintings.
As far as payment, I prefer Paypal. I've also done money orders though, so if you need to use a different method of payment, we can work something out. Also, I have got to ask that you pay before the artwork is shipped out. That's just playing it safe on my part. It's not fair to put so much time and effort into making a custom painting and then having someone back out.
Do you take special requests?
-You betcha! I've done lots of things, including animals out of my usual realm like elephants and dragonflies. People like to have their pets painted as well, both for themselves and as gifts. How cool would it be to have your favorite dog custom painted on a turkey feather? I have a few examples of these in my gallery too.
If you have a commission or questions and comments, feel free to comment here or to note me!
And... that's the sales pitch.

Enjoy!
